My hometown is Richmond, Virginia. Richmond is a wonderful medium sized city, with lots of history and culture. My childhood was spent south of the James River, but most of my adult life has been north of the river, in the Fan District. For those that might know Richmond, I lived for six years on Monument Ave, just west of the Stonewall Jackson monument. Here is some images of an era mush earlier but some beautifully displayed images of the richness of Richmond's past. I attended Virginia Commonwealth University, in the School of Psychology.
My father's family arrived in the area sometime before 1830. Ignatius Schutte appears for the first time on the Census Reports in that year. Ignatius owned a 100 acre tract of land, in what was then Powhatan County and a House on a half acre tract in the City of Manchester. Manchester no longer exists, Richmond, the twin city across the James River enveloped it. And my father's home is a small piece of what is left of the 100 acre parcel, also now in the city limits of Richmond, Virginia.
The Schuttes are a German Catholic family. Originially from Prussia, they left after the rise of Protestants and the rise of religious persecution.
More family history to come here. Here are some family photos.
